Joyfully Exhilarating Conan Gray
Connects with Latest Touring Show
By Steve Duffy
Nobody captures the inner world of Gen Z—especially its queer heart—quite like Conan Gray. The Texas-born singer-songwriter has become a defining voice for LGBTQ youth and allies alike, transforming personal vulnerability into a space where identity, longing, and self-expression are celebrated without apology. With Wishbone, his fourth studio album released in August 2025, Conan continues to expand that world alongside longtime collaborator and GRAMMY® winner Dan Nigro and a team of acclaimed producers.
Since breaking through with his platinum-certified debut Kid Krow—home to massive hits like “Heather,” “Maniac,” and “The Story”—Conan has amassed over 12 billion streams and delivered a consistent run of chart-topping albums (Superache, Found Heaven, and Wishbone). His rise has been matched by critical acclaim from major publications and standout performances on national television. By 2024, he was selling out arenas worldwide while shaping his artistic vision as both a performer and a creative director. Wishbone continues that path, offering 12 self-written tracks that expand the unique world Conan has built.
Even with his impressive musical resume, I had no idea who Conan Gray was until a few weeks ago. That all changed when I attended the Wishbone World Tour, which is nothing short of a triumph. From the moment the lights drop to the final notes of the encore, the show felt like an invitation into Conan’s world—vulnerable, theatrical, and endlessly captivating.

Conan is a musical storyteller who draws you in and keeps your attention. I found many comparisons to the great Freddie Mercury in his performance. Conan does not have the three-octave range that Freddie has, but he does have the same emotive and expressive singing talent. They also challenged gender norms through flamboyant costumes, theatrical gestures, and “gender-bending outfits,” which contribute to Conan’s status as a queer ally. Conan has been widely embraced by LGBTQIA+ fans because of his androgynous fashion, glam-rock-inspired styling, and his emotional openness.
Conan opened the show with “My World,” immediately placing fans in a frenzy, which did not stop until the very last song. There was screaming, crying, and a lot of singing. I was amazed at how everyone knew the lyrics to every song. His setlist was complete with all fan-favorite songs from his breakout hit, “Heather,” to the crowd favorite “Maniac.” He also surprised fans with “The Best,” a new song that has not yet been released. His live performances of these songs elevated them beyond their studio versions. His emotional transparency, delivery, and fan connection turn each song into a moment.
Conan Gray’s Wishbone World Tour is a beautifully crafted, emotionally charged, and joyfully exhilarating live experience. It blends theatrical flair with heartfelt sincerity, showcasing Conan not only as a great vocalist but also as a storyteller who thrives on connection.
Whether you’re a lifelong listener or a new fan, this tour is an absolute must-see—a celebration of music, emotions, and community that lingers long after the lights come up.
